The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Poor Feedback

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a distinct direction.

The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full content from the president's announcement:

Team—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our audience.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the recent years producing and managing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming him next week. We are all looking forward to persist observing the evolution of the game in the weeks to follow.

David

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was revealed in October 2024 in conjunction with a public demo. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling step forward on the style."

"Face the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and tests that shift every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game lacks an official debut schedule or platforms, but fans can look forward to more updates as creation progresses.
